MOST harness sold are these kind and generally if the leash attaches on the top (dogs back) they are the 'bad' kind.

The GOOD kind will attach on the dogs chest so if the dog tried to pull he is turned off line and is discouraged from pulling.

If you see the Easy Walk Harness review I liked to from the article above you will better understand what I am talking about.Capawble Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10538360394124468871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616167741562029652.post-51490020063690299342011-05-27T12:20:38.113-07:002011-05-27T12:20:38.113-07:00What is a pulling harness? The SIZE of the dog does not matter at ...Caroline,

The SIZE of the dog does not matter at all, a dog is a dog is a dog. The breed does come into play, as it is a defining factor in what you have as a dog.

Does the dog gravitate to a specific person? Is it "mommies dog" and everyone else is a stranger? This seems to be a common occurrence, especially with the smaller toy breeds. make sure the dog knows the people come first, and that they are a distant second. If someone comes up to you (or whomever is holding the dog)and the dog growls, etc., tell it NO, and then put it on the floor while you and the person chat. This should help the dog begin to understand its place in the pecking order.

Another thing that has helped me is watching the Dog Whisperer and using his technique of holding the dog down with a "claw hand" to simulate another dog holding it down by its neck. Hold them down until they FULLY submit and relax, then let them up.

If you describe the issue with a little more specificity I might be able to give you some more focused advice, however the above should help.

As always, if you feel this is a real issue, see professional help (for your dog, not yourself!)Capawble Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10538360394124468871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616167741562029652.post-58970905181434816952011-01-04T09:13:44.512-08:002011-01-04T09:13:44.512-08:00All our dogs have been chipped since the technolog...All our dogs have been chipped since the technology came about. When Roxy was about 9 months old she got out in our very densely populated neighborhood, at about 10pm. She's 9lbs and solid black. We searched for hours, driving up and down the street, the kids crying for their puppy, it was the worst feeling ever. My only solice at the time was knowing that she was chipped, and if she made it through alive, someone would find her back to me.
Thankfully about 4 hours later, she followed my roomate's car from about 5 blocks away and came running in the driveway. But like you said, most stories do not end that way, and so many families are broken because these pups can't find their way home. I honestly think chipping should be required like registration.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616167741562029652.post-44104345270893626882011-01-04T09:07:44.568-08:002011-01-04T09:07:44.568-08:00How does one work with a (small) dog and (small-is...How does one work with a (small) dog and (small-ish) children to get everyone on the same page? My 9lb 1 year old tibetian spaniel is very territorial in our house, specifically over the adults, and we have had several incidents of biting and nipping. We initally had 2 of these dogs, and incident #1 led us to find a new home for the older boy (at a close friends house) because I believed he just wasn't child-friendly. But the girl does it too. The kids understand the rules, but as kids can be, they get a little overbearing with the dog, which I think freaks her out and causes the nipping. They say that one of the "...Amen to that, Sir!

They say that one of the "warning signs" that a child may grow up to be a serial killer is that they will often torture small animals and family pets.

In all the hullabaloo of Michael Vick's trial, I never heard an expert speak about what it means when a grown man tortures small animals and family pets... I'm no psychologist but it seems to me that of the two, doing it as an ADULT would be worse.

The whole circus seems, well, surreal to me. I mean, we convict a sports hero of some heinous crime, we send them to light weight prisons or jails where they get special treatment (or at least special protection) and then when they get out, they get their old jobs back and we once again let our children hang their posters back up on the wall. Does this sound crazy to anyone besides me?

The experts say that children learn in just 3 ways: By example, by example, and by example.

When 'villains' are able to achieve fame and fortune we are only sending one message to our kids, and it isn't the message we want them to get...

Seriously, we need to change who we teach our children to emulate, because at this rate we will soon be giving Boy Scouts merit badges for fist fighting, dealing drugs, and abusing little girls.Sensei Morganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16813252390555437882noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616167741562029652.post-44013550839316744662010-12-13T16:09:45.095-08:002010-12-13T16:09:45.095-08:00My friend CAT who works for the County asked me to...My friend CAT who works for the County asked me to pass this along:
"The LA City shelters have GIFT CERTIFICATES so you can still give a pet, but it allows THEM to pick (ie. bond) it out. Christmas and Easte...Thanks for the timely article! Christmas and Easter are tough times for shelters... There are so many advantages of getting a rescue dog!

With many rescue organizations, the dog in question is pre-screened for socialization by a professional, then FOSTERED to a loving family for a month or so before being offered for adoption. What this means is that not only are you getting a healthy and mentally stable pet, but because the animal has been living with foster parents for a little while, they can tell you things like if it gets along with other dogs, or cats, if it barks at men in hats, or is pre-house trained and other information that can help assure you are bringing the RIGHT animal companion home to join your family...Sensei Morganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16813252390555437882noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616167741562029652.post-21825607881770243932010-12-12T16:36:07.395-08:002010-12-12T16:36:07.395-08:00Thank you for your comments and continued support ...Thank you for your comments and continued support Morgan!

HOLY COW do I remember Bob (the Wonder Dog) at the beach that day. Each time he dropped the ball at my feet, I would give him a treat or a bunch of loving and praise.

Sure enough, the next day at the dog park, there is my dog, picking up tennis balls, running up to complete strangers, sitting and dropping the ball at their feet!
